India’s Pune filmfest to screen Iran’s ‘Slow Death’

Iranian short ‘Slow Death’ has been selected to compete at the 2020 edition of the Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) in India.

Written and directed by Amin Sahraee, the short will be screened at the Student Film section of the Indian event.

‘Slow Death’ is a thriller about a segment of the life of a girl in old Tehran.

“On a dark night, a young girl’s mother and brother are at home. Before going to bed, Talaat, the young girl, tells a frightening tale. Her brother is too scared to get water from the kitchen. So Talaat goes to get the water. But when she returns to the room, her mother and brother have disappeared. Suddenly, a woman and a man unknown to her enter the room. Who are they? And then Talaat finds out the truth,” a synopsis for the film reads.

The social drama was awarded at the Eurasia International Monthly Film Festival in Russia and the Tehran International Short Film Festival in Iran.

The 12-minute flick went on screen at the 15th Early Bird International Film Festival in Bulgaria and the 2019 East Northeast International Film Festival in the US

Among the other Iranian titles at the Pune event are ‘Sly’ by Kamal Tabrizi, ‘Komur’ by Esmaeel Monsef, ‘Better than Neil Armstrong’ by Alireza Qasemi, and ‘Just 6.5’ by Saeed Roustaee.

Iranian actress Shabnam Qolikhani serves as a member of the jury at the 17th PIFF.

The PIFF aims to create a healthy film culture in Pune which is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

The fest brings the best of the global cinema to the city and sparks a cultural exchange.

The 2020 edition of the event has been slated for January 9-16.
